The Creative Act: A Way of Being

by Rick Rubin

Want to inspire your next creative act…or live in an abundant mindset where creative ideas flow endlessly? Nine-time Grammy Award winning producer, Rick Rubin, shares his wisdom collected over 40 years working with music industry’s greatest icons from Johnny Cash to Adele, Aerosmith to Jay-Z. Rubin’s philosophy is a hands-off or minimalist approach to production which encourages artists to express themselves freely, authentically and to take risks that push their boundaries.

Rubin’s wisdom is both practical and meditative. Here are a few of my fav pearls of wisdom:

  • Look for clues to inspire your work at every turn—in nature, conversations, chance encounters and works of art

  • Great art opens a conversation, rather than closing it

How do we know when an idea is flourishing? Often the most accurate signposts is emotion and an energizing feeling of wanting more. Follow your interest, base decisions on the internal feeling of being moved.
